In the midst of Madam Celina’s well intentioned, actively directed, and beautifully executed mind piercing and heartbreaking emotional outburst, which some thinkers described as a strategy she deployed to dump a load, in the soul of a trusted, benevolent and considerate Man, to leverage her desire to be a lover.

Madam Cecilia’s problem with the daughter and the marriage plans started the moment she got wink of who Michael’s father is. The two older Parents (Mr. Barnabas and Madam Celina), had known each other, one may say, dated secretly in the past. Though taken aback that Celina is the Mother to the girl his Son proposed to marry, Mr. Barnabas, did not expect the twist the woman brought into it. To Mr. Barnabas, whatever they had for each was in the past. To him, the issue is not big enough to constitute any impediment, therefore, does not warrant the kind of dust Madam Celina, raised about the issue. Based on his disposition to the matter, Mr. Barnabas had granted his approval for the younger ones to go ahead with their planned marriage. This decision did not go down well with the woman, who vehemently resisted the proposal, insisting that their children must cancel the marriage.

For the young Man, Michael, the story is different. His father’s support for the marriage has continued to wax strong. This is not to suggest that he was not disturbed by negative vibes the fiancĂ©e relayed to him, in view of her Mother’s body language. He was worried, almost devastated. He could not relate clearly with the sudden change of mind, worsened by the inability or refusal of her heart throb’s Mother to offer any explanation.

Being a close friend of the father, as Selina is to her Mother, Michael decided to appeal to his father to intervene. Without much Ado, Mr. Barnabas, Michael’s father, succumbed to the plea of the Son, to reach out to Selina’s Mother. On the self-appointed date, he set out early to Madam Celina’s, using the address, his Son, Michael gave him.

After what seemed like eternity, Salome took a deep breath, after which came these words:

“My Mother is no longer interested in my marriage to Michael. But, I won’t allow it go just like that”.  With this conclusion, Salome made up her mind to face her mother squarely, saying “Whatever is responsible for the sudden change in my Mother towards my marriage is worth investigating, especially, when my mother could not discuss it with me”.

WHO YOU ARE IS SETTLED, WHAT IS REMAINING IS YOUR PRICE

FROM OUR SERIES “LITTLE THINGS THAT MATTER”

Pix is for illustrative purpose.
Has nothing to do with the story.

A Man on a journey, my story begins; met a very beautiful, charming and attractive young lady. Just like her, the young Man was handsome, trendy, soft spoken and cool.

Not long into the journey, the young Man, in an amazing, intelligent and very courteous manner; but of course in a controlled voice, initiated a conversation with the lady.

MARRIAGE: A GAME FOR THE STRONG AND INTELLIGENT

By Nnabugwu Chizoba

Someone almost confused me when he described marriage as “a state of terrible torment that those who enter into are compelled to remain, even when it is obvious that nothing good comes out of it”.

CULTURE REGENERATION: VALENTINE DAY CELEBRATION, A CULTURAL WORM IN A COCOON

By Nnabugwu Chizoba

Corpse of Nanchin, allegedly murdered in Jos, by her lover, Dele, for refusing to be with him on Val Day
Love, death and time are streams of consciousness depicting the random flow of thoughts, emotions, memories, reminiscences and associations through the veil of human experiences on earth. They are abstract terms possessing no tangible quality or quantity. They are a ridicule of human weakness, vice or folly, and/or literary thoughts associated with personal and inter-personal grid of ideas that represent Mans emotions, moods, intervals or space.

Valentine Day is a memoriam of a martyred Saint. From every indication, the event has permeated the fabric of the society. From available records, Valentine Day, as an event began in Europe during the Nineteen Century. Since then, it has been advocated by poets, artists and narrators of Verisimilitude - the appearance of being real or semblance of truth.

Death is a material entity that terminates the physical property of Man, a theatre of the absurd. Time is the meter of measuring epochs, seasons and period of events.

HE SAVED MY LIFE... HE INJURED MY SOUL

Mr. Abok is married to two Women. Over the years they lived happily, to the envy of some neighbours and friends. Betty, the senior wife conducts herself, as if she is the elder sister of Kate, her co-wife. Unlike what obtains most times in such relationships, where the other party hardly reciprocate such kindness with warm and encouraging attitudes, Kate, the second wife respects Betty, the senior wife, relates with her, the way an obedient daughter would, to a caring and loving mother.
To encourage the healthy relationship that exists in the family, Mr. Brown, their husband, has specific days of the week, reserved for each wife, for his ward round visits (I hope you're able to crack the code). The parties have been very faithful to the treaty, submitting to it religiously.

Everything was going on smoothly, or so it seems, until one fateful day. That very day the senior wife, whose turn it was to perform the day’s maintenance chores, part of which was to prepare food for their husband, provide the bath water, and as you already know, present herself for the game of Rod and Hole. By every standard, the Senior Wife was on top of the situation, considering that before midnight the couple have performed two contacts of the conjugal mandate.
