“Culture Goes to School (CGS)” is name of the Project. It is a school based culture driven, value re-orientation and capacity building intervention Project. It is designed to deepen the knowledge, understanding and skill of Teens, Youths and Kids (TYK) in Nigeria about what culture really is: the value and benefits to them and the society.

THE NGAS INITIATIVE AT THE MONUMENT OF TRADITIONAL NIGERIAN ARCHITECTURE (MOTNA), IS REAWAKENING AND INSPIRING

 

Reawakening, captivating and amazingly inspiring, may be, are the suitable adjectives to qualify the emergence, growing interest, influence and constantly increasing visibility and acceptance by the public of the now trending activities that the Ngas Nation of Plateau state, North Central Nigeria initiated at the Monument of Traditional Nigerian Architecture (MOTNA), located at Jos premises of the National Museum. The intensified activities by the Gamai Nation and plans by the other nations to come on stream, speaks volume of the Ngas initiative. Important to emphasise is the interest, commitment and hunger shown by the younger generation to flow with the now trending activities at the Ngas and Gamai villages at the MOTNA.

UNDERSTANDING THE PURPOSE OF DECLARING JULY 12TH ANNUALLY AS A DARK DAY BY SCORELINE


Recently, Scoreline in a publication made to the public declared July 12th every year a “Dark Day”. The declaration was in remembrance of those that loss their life in the school building collapse incident at a private school: Saint Academy Jos.

Since that publication, some people have sort to know the purpose and benefits of that declaration, the fact that Scoreline categorically noted that the details will be made available in subsequent releases and publications notwithstanding.

The union has a legal backing for purposes of procreation and companionship in order to live peacefully among themselves and the society. The universality in it is that every responsible and mature adult honours it and strife for it. Aside from man’s recognition towards marriage, God honours marriage very much for it is His institution for procreation/companionship, continuity/consistency for the existence of man and earth alike.

When yet another pre-event art and craft exhibition held in the City of Jos, the Plateau state capital, Nigeria, the art enthusiasts that gathered to grace the event, especially, the Non-Nigerians, literally wondered if there ever will be a limit to the natural and human endowments of Nigeria. The country is so wonderfully blessed most of them must have said.

The art enthusiasts that gathered at the event venue in the scenic and captivating City of Jos, were awe stricken when the event host in his opening speech announced that the Artist, whose invitation they gathered to honour is an Electrical Engineer.

TYPES OF MASQURADES IN IGBOLAND

The Igbos are one of the major and most culturally diverse ethnic groups in Africa (Ogbonna, 2019). As Enechukwu 2016 postulated, “they stretch across River Niger from the west of Agbor to Cross River moving north of Nsukka high lands, to some parts of the Atlantic coast. Igbos inhabit mainly in Anambra, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi and Enugu States of Nigeria. Large numbers of them are found in Delta, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.

THE BENEFIT OF PALM TREE TO THE IGBO PEOPLE

INTRODUCTION 

In Igbo land, the palm tree (Elaeis guneensis) is as old as the settlement of human in the area. Fragments of palm kernels found in Igbo land dates to 2555-130BC through archaeological research carried out by Ezike (1987), at Ogbodu Aba in Udenu L.G.A, Ezike (1988), at Aku in Igbo Etiti L.G.A all in Enugu state and Chikwendu (1975), at Ugwuagu, Afikpo in Ebonyi state, point to 500-200 BC. Besides man’s relationship with people, he shares an intimate relationship with his environment and palm tree is one of them. In Igbo traditional society, palm tree is known as “Nkwu” and it is one of the trees treated with reverence and given a special status.

The Public convenience at the National Museum Jos

Mrs. Bolcit Byanyiko, Curator, National Museum Jos has been commended by the public for what they (members of the public) have observed as sustained efforts, passionate and high level of commitment continuously exhibited by her as the team lead of the Jos Museum management. 

They noted as part of their observation, her desire to impact enduringly on the physical environment of the 72 years old museum, established in 1952, 8 years before Nigeria got her independence from the British colonial masters, in 1960.
