RISE UP TO SAVE THE ELDERLY: EARLY SIGNS RECOGNITION AND FIRST AID IN AN EMERGENCY CAN HELP REDUCE SUFFERING AND SAVE LIVES

According to a write up by the Global First Aid Referral Center (GFARC):

“People over 65 years old are the most vulnerable age group to illnesses and domestic accidents. They are more prone to falls and develop cardiovascular disease, and other health issues such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

STEP OUT TO BE COUNTED

Children face high risk of unintentional injury at home, in school and several other locations of interest.

This makes it increasingly a fundamental requirement, for people who are always with/around them, such as House Helps/Domestic Servants, Day Care Owners/staff, Parents, Teachers, Brothers, Sisters, other relations and their friends, and the children themselves, to acquire basic lifesaving capacity to enable them respond appropriately and effectively in an emergency situation.

One of such skills is First Aid skill. Having it is key, utilizing it is important, and updating the knowledge and skill through refresher trainings, courses and programmes are essential.

MAKE THEIR LIFE COUNT WHEN IT COMES TO SAVING LIVES

Children van learn First Aid

According to the Global First Aid Referral Center:

In 9 out of 10 cases, during an accident, it is the life of a relative that is at stake"

Children, from the youngest age can perform First Aid and save the life of a family member or a schoolmate.

SUDDEN FALL: CHILDREN IN OTHER CLIMES SAVE LIVES, NIGERIAN CHILDREN SHOULD

Age is not a barrier. She saves life

Sudden fall, also known as: Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA), is a medical emergency that has become rampant in Nigeria, going by the frequency of occurrences, in the recent time. OHCA is revealed by a loss of mechanical cardiac function and the absence of systematic circulation. According to the Medical and Health professionals, each second that passes, when OHCA occurs, the possibility of a good outcome decreases.

It is identified that most cases of OHCA occur outside the hospital, and the survival rate in Nigeria, is very low, and many out of the few people that survived OHCA, end up disfigured, even when they occur at homes. OHCA, also occur at work place, markets and sporting arenas, religious centers and other locations that human beings visit or gather, and carry out their activities.

Continuing from my previous post on a similar topic, let me once again call on Adults: male and female, of all works of life, background, age and religious leanings, to consider as a top priority agenda, support for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), and First Aid (FA) skills acquisition, by children, across board.

EXISTING CHILD FRIENDLY STRUCTURES IN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS, WILL BE ENHACED BY DISASTER RISK REDUCTION AND FIRST AID SKILLS

Goose pimple, the effect of shock, that arose from the narrative of some people that cared enough to put a call across to me as response to my previous post, on this platform, which of course relate to the one you're reading, in a way has prompted me to do a follow up.

STRENGTHENING DISASTER RISK REDUCTION AND FIRST AID SKILLS OF CHILDREN IN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS: KEY TO BUILDING RESILIENT CITIZENS AND COMMUNITIES

Schools, in particular, Primary and Secondary, are essentially, where ideas, skills and values of common interest to the society are sown, in the early days of a child’s development in education. The formalized nurturing processes that expose the growing child to the outer world, through a structured strategy of building the mind and feeding the brain with knowledge: thinking, orientation and values, approved and mutually accepted and believed to be vital to the life of the child, take root in the school.

EMERGENCY FIRST AID RESPONSE, CRITICAL FACTOR TO REDUCTION OF DEATH AND INJURIES DURING ROAD CRASHES AND THE NEED FOR MORE NIGERIANS TO TRAIN AS FIRST AID SERVICE PROVIDERS

By Nnabugwu Chizoba (Charismatic Chizy)

Road traffic injuries have been identified as one of the leading causes of Death in the world. This fact is in my own thinking even more, in a developing country, like Nigeria. On daily basis, reports from old and new media, hit the Nigerian public about deaths and injuries that result from Road crashes.

In 2016 and 2017 alone, official record reveals that Road Traffic Accidents in Nigeria led to 8937 (Eight thousand nine hundred and thirty seven) deaths. Out of this figure 4,410 (Four thousand four hundred and ten) deaths occurred in 2017, while 4,527 (Four thousand five hundred twenty seven) happened in 2016. Within the same period of 2016 and 2017, 50,141 (Fifty thousand one hundred and forty one) people were injured in 16,495 (Sixteen thousand four hundred and ninety five) Road crashes. A lot more crashes, deaths and injuries may have occurred and not captured or recorded within the same period.

By Nnabugwu Chizoba

The 2016 theme of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent, has been unveiled in Jos, the Plateau State Capital. The event took place on Sunday, the 18th of May, 2016, at the Plateau State Capital.

Speaking to our reporter at the event, in Jos, the Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross and Red Crescent, Plateau Branch, Mr. Manasseh Panpe, revealed that the theme for the 2016 Red Cross Year is “Everywhere for Everyone”.

On the relationship of this year’s International Red Cross and Red Crescent theme, and the activities of the Nigerian Red Cross and Red Crescent in Plateau State, Mr. Manasseh said “the theme simply stated the obvious, which is that the Nigerian Red Cross and Red Crescent in Plateau State is everywhere, as can be seen by the presence of the Society in all the nooks and crannies of the state".

In the case of “For Everyone”, contained in the theme, Mr. Panpe responded thus “it is glaring that the staff and volunteers of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in Plateau State, have at all times adopted the principle of no discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinion, in all her activities and operations. This is why, in all cases, the society has always endeavored to relieve the suffering of individuals, and in doing so has been guided solely by the need to give priority attention to the most urgent cases of distress”.
