THERE IS NO SMALL TASK IN THIS, NO WAY TO PERFORM THIS ASSIGNMENT HALF WAY

Mr. Akinyemi Alamu

The title of this piece best describes the approach to work of him whose picture is shown above. He is a Man whom the Almighty Lord has shown mercy in multiple ways. He knows it, professes it, appreciates it and is at every point in time grateful for what the Father of all, the great King of Kings and the creator of Heaven and Earth has done for him and has continuously done for his entire household.

He is clearly a symbol of hard work, commitment and resilience. His approaches to work, customer handling style, interest in those that refer people to him and indeed his relationship with those that supply him with goods and services are huge sources of inspiration and motivation to the younger generation. They serve as lessons also, to especially, those people that truly are keen and desirous of creating impact and influencing positively those around them and even them that they will for obvious reasons come in contact with or meet in the future.

Mr. Akinyemi Alamu is his name. He is an artist, one that has spent decades honing his skills, serving the public passionately in the area of art and craft, pushing boundaries, motivating and inspiring different generations to excel in arts and crafts and other personal engagements in their life, to continuously explore and identify areas where they will make passionate contributions to the society, and equally encourage others to do the same.

Mr. Akinyemi started as a Sculptor in the early days of his life and career as an artist, a skill he learnt from a close member of the family. This is a clear indication that the skills of arts and craft runs in his family. Mr. Akinyemi has since diversified into painting. As a matter of fact he is now an admirable promoter of the works of art, in particular the works of fellow artists in the industry, whose works he does not only appreciate but has devoted his time to help them market and sell.

Aware that he has carved an excellent image for himself in the industry of his calling, he has created a niche in the market that others can benefit from maximally. He sees it as a duty to contribute towards lifting the industry in any little way he can. In this regard he considers himself as a medium through which numerous others, especially, the unenlightened and uneducated, but who are gifted in arts and craft, can earn a sustainable living through nature’s endowment in them.

Presently, he serves as a bridge through which the ignorant members of the industry, who obviously lack the strength and capacity to determine accurately the right value for their works, in both aesthetic and concrete terms, can earn better. He has over the years helped some of them to exchange their works, poorly rated by them to sell at higher value and earn better income.

His knack for the above has also led him to continuously seek for the wellbeing of the older artists who are getting weaker by the day and are no longer very active again. He specifically reaches out to them consistently. Some of them are states far from his location in the City of Jos, the Plateau State Capital, North Central Nigeria. He liaises with them, attracts their works of art, sells and in a jiffy remits their money to them.

The psycho-social impact and cushioning effect of the financial reward of the above efforts to the direct beneficiaries, the Senior citizens or aging; and ignorant members of the art and craft industry, and the indirect or extended beneficiaries: their own family members, friends and other contact, and indeed the multiplier effect to the economy is a testimony that a little effort can make a whole lot of difference. It is a food for thought for the reader of this piece and of a truth numerous others at large.

The above testifies to the facts that support structures in the form of social welfare schemes, in particular is not, and should not be limited to the officially recognized ones; which are in most cases poorly implemented and exclusively reserved by the authorities for the public sector workers, and very few private sector outfits.

Mr. Akinyemi Alamu’s journey in the art and craft industry that will highligh his struggles, failures, achievements and recognitions, exhibitions in the industry, and other personal stories and insights from the decades of committed service and skills honing efforts; and their deployment actively through arts and crafts creativity, are stories you need to read. Same is true of his legacies, and projections for the future of the industry. Scoreline promises to compile them for your reading pleasure soonest.
