ISUAMAWU DEVELOPMENT UNION (IDU) CONDOLES FAMILIES AFFECTED BY THE BUILDING COLLAPSE INCIDENT IN A PRIVATE SCHOOL IN JOS

The IsuAmawu Development Union (IDU) Jos Branch, Plateau State, North Central Nigeria, is deeply saddened by the ugly incident of July 12, 2024 in the City of Jos, Plateau State, where some school children and teachers lost their lives, and others sustained various forms and degrees of injuries due to a collapsed classroom building of a private school, Saint Academy Jos.

Speaking to our reporter in Jos, the Chairman, Men's Wing of the Isuamawu Development Union, Jos Branch, Mr Nnabugwu Chizoba, who noted that the building collapse incident was a tragic and devastating event, however, urged the affected, the families of the dead to take heart and remain faithful to God, while mourning and bearing the pains of the loss of their dear, precious and lovely Sons and Daughters. He extended the words of hope to also those whose family members were injured in the building collapse incident.

The IDU Union Chairman, encouraged the affected to put their faith in God, trust in his unfailing love and healing power to rewrite their stories individually and collectively, and prayed that Jesus Christ, will comfort, console and grant them the fortitude to bear the loss and to move them away from the pain and sorrow that are associated with incidences of this nature.

Wearing a sad face and mourning appearance, Mr Nnabugwu Chizoba, says: Yes this incident has brought in its wake pains, sorrows and grief to the affected families, but one thing is however sure, the affected are not alone in this. The Almighty Lord and His Son Jesus Christ are with them. Similarly, the entire residents of Jos, particularly the people of Isuamawu and Isuikwuato in Jos, are standing with them in solidarity. We commensurate deeply, with all the affected families of the school building collapse that occurred in Jos recently. May you find solace in the realization that the memories of your dearly beloved ones, are and will continue to be a blessing to you whenever you remember them, either now or in the future. Be comforted, knowing that the Soul of your loved ones that met their death in the collapsed school building will never be forgotten. Please, bear in mind that the people of Isuamawu and Isuikwuato are with you in Spirit, lifting you in prayers to the Almighty Lord now and always.

Mr Nnabugwu Chizoba, went further to sympathize with the Management, Staff and Students, and the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the Saint Academy, and the owner of the collapsed school structure as well. He urged the members of the public to lift and support the affected families spiritually, with their prayers.

He later, drew the attention of the public on the need to pay physical visits to commensurate with the affected families, saying, there is nothing that can take the place of a face-to-face meeting. There is nothing that can compare closely with human-to-human physical dialogue, heart-to-heart talk, discussion or as some people may want to call it, interaction with different people, especially, in a situation such as the affected persons are confronted with presently.

He particularly, reminded members of the public to also include in their prayers and visit schedule the uninjured teachers, other staff and students, and the owner of the school as well, saying, the public should also prioritize in their schedule of visits and prayers those that were not injured during the collapsed building incident and owner of the school as well. There is no doubt that they are heavily traumatized and therefore need different levels of psycho-social support therapies in their efforts to regain balance and return to their normal everyday activities.

The IDU Chairman, Mr Nnabugwu, also sympathized and commensurate with the Government and people of Plateau State, led by the Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang. He commended the Governor for taken immediate steps to activate the emergency units and organs of the state and non-state actors, an action that ensured swift, smooth and positive impact of the operations and led to the rescue and of several lives from the debris of the collapsed building.

Apart from commending the Governor for the swift action taken to activate the emergency protocols in the state, Barr Mutfwang was applauded by the IDU Chairman for issuing a directive to authorities of the hospitals and calling on the medical personnel in Plateau state to prioritize treatment of those affected by the school building collapse, and equally following it up with the assurance that the state government is committed to paying the bills. This action of the Governor, according to the IDU Chairman was necessary to gain the attention, confidence and commitment of the targeted, to ensure that words were supported or backed with action by the health and medical facility owners operating in the state.

Finally, Ndi-Isuamawu, under the umbrella name, Isuamawu Development Union, IDU, Jos Branch, through Mr Nnabugwu Chizoba, the Chairman, appreciated Governor Mutfwang for also visiting the scene of the incident for his own on-the-spot assessment of the situation; and for issuing further directives after the visit, aimed at ensuring improvement of the situation and stopping any further damages.

Before ending his chat with Scoreline, the IDU Chairman called on the Plateau State government and other relevant bodies to take immediate actions that will lead to thorough investigation into the direct and remote causes of the school building collapse, as well as ensure that enforcement of safety standards and any other regulations necessary to ensure that the best is obtained in the construction industry, to stop occurrence of the incident in the now and in the future.

Ndi-Isuamawu in Jos, through their Chairman also commended the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Jos North Division, and thanked equally the Plateau Branch of the Society, for her support that led to the commanding role and monumental achievement of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in the Search and Rescue Operation that resulted in the saving of many lives and drastic reduction in the victims of the school building collapse. The commendation of the IDU Chairman was extended to both the state and non-state actors involved in the Search and Rescue Operations.
