BITRUS KAZE IDENTIFIES TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN PLATEAU STATE AS ONE SURE WAY OF GENERATING EMPLOYMENT FOR THE YOUTHS

Hon Bitrus Kaze

A prominent son of Afizere, Plateau state and Nigeria, Hon. Bitrus B Kaze who represented the good people of Jos South and Jos East Federal Constituency of Plateau State, at the Federal House of representative in Nigeria between 2007 and 2011 and 2011 and 2015, a period of 8 legislative years as federal legislator at the National Assembly has identified tourism development in Plateau state as one sure way of generating employment for the teeming youths of the state.

Speaking exclusively to

the only media outfit in Jos Plateau state dedicated for the promotion of heritage, culture and tradition and other development activities involving tourism, entrepreneurship and business in the African sub-region, Hon Bitrus Kaze who visited the ancient, indeed one of the most captivating tourism sites in the Globe, the 100 Steps to the Ancient Afizere Settlement, located at the Jos Museum, in Jos, the Plateau state capital, North Central Nigeria ahead of the World Museum Day that holds annually on the 18th of May every year, spoke glowingly about the ancient settlement of the Afizere people, and used the opportunity to note that the site presents multiple tourism development benefits that cut across  social, economic and political and therefore, offer numerous opportunities for the growth and sustainable development of us, the Afizeres, Jos East Local Government Area, Plateau state and Nigeria as a whole.

According to Hon Kaze, Afizere land is richly endowed with natural heritage and culture. As a matter of fact Plateau state is a land of treasure, but regretted that the natural endowments of the state are largely untapped, and went further to note that the state and Nigeria as a whole have over the years taken tourism for granted, saying:

“The challenge here is, we have taken tourism for granted in Plateau state and Nigeria generally. We are sleeping on riches but unfortunately crying of hunger. This ugly state of affair has being our greatest undoing as a people and as a nation”.

Speaking precisely about the 100 Steps of the ancient Afizere settlement, Hon. Bitrus Kaze pointed out clearly the distinctive and distinguishing quality of the very unique heritage site:

“You will hardly find any tourist place that you will enjoy this cool breeze, natural weather and scenic beauty of her environment like here. Other tourist sites comparable to this place are not this temperate. As you can see by yourself, here is cool, here is beautiful, here is the small London of Nigeria.

Hon Kaze, observing his own 360 degree view of Jos from the 100 steps

“When we were kids, this is where any typical white man: missionary, government worker, tourist and what have you, always come to acclimatize before they relocate to anywhere else”.

He identified lack of political will among factors militating against tourism development in Nigeria.
