WALK THE TALK: A YOUTH INITIATIVE FOR PEACE GOES FOR WALK TO WORK THE TALK. LEND YOUR SUPPORT

"Work-the-Talk" an impact driven, action packed, youth initiative is designed for the promotion of unity and harmonious relationships, injection of the instruments that encourages fluidity, easy and free flow of information gathering and communication among people, and as a matter of fact an awareness tool for people to do away with rumour peddling and to enhance their personal understanding of the effects of rumour, and the ways and activities of conflict merchants and entrepreneurs and how rumour peddling help them to achieve their goals and perpetuate their dastardly acts of destruction of life and property.

The programme is targeted at tracking early warning signs and ensuring that activities likely to inject bad blood, throw up tension or add to it, whenever observed are nipped in the bug and the root cause rooted out immediately.

The overall goal of Walk the Talk, is to build understanding, unity and sustainable Peace.

The event is scheduled to hold at Dashonong, one of the suburbs in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. The theme which is both apt and stimulating is:

"Proactive Action Against Reoccurrence of Violent Conflicts At Dashonong".

The organizer of the programme, Youth With Achievable Purposes YWAP) is disturbed by the constantly rising tension and high incidences of armed conflicts in some parts of Plateau State and other parts of the Nigeria, and as a matter of fact the increasing cases of other forms of conflicts observed in communities, and has decided to put a proactive mechanism in place rather than wait and embark on a damage control after the deal is done and harm inflicted.

In view of the above the youth group, YWAP is up to stamp out negative influences, which serve as conflict drivers and triggers in the community of their choice Dashonong.

The programme is targeting all the religious, traditional and political leaders in Dashonong community as stakeholders in peace building, and will be engaging them to discuss sensitive issues with regard to building in communities and the attainment of  sustainable peace in and outside the community.

A peep into the planned activities of the 3 days event reveal that YWAP will go street to street on Thursday, 1st February 2024, and reach out to the parents, most especially mothers, and on the following day, Friday 2nd February 2024, the team will go to the jungles to engage the group a lead member of the YWAP team Mr. Adebayo Luckman describes as "our brothers and sisters" at risk.

YWAP uses this medium to call on well-meaning members of the public and lovers of peace building efforts to join hands with the group through their support in both material and physical presence during the event.

This is indeed APT, as proactive measures become necessary in nipping any conflict situation in the bud, by understanding the EARLY WARNING signs as done by YWAP thereby, engaging both the primary and secondary stakeholders to serve as actors in that regard.

One of the most interesting part is the involvement and engaging the main actors and bringing them to fore so as to bring an end to the situation.

Mr. Adebayo Lukman Salman has always been at the fore in ensuring peace and peaceful coexistence thrive not only in DASHONONG, but in all parts of Plateau State.

Wishing you the best of luck.
