TOUR PLATEAU: SERVED THE NEEDS, CREATED HUNGER FOR MORE

"Identify what the need of the people is, prepare it, package it and present it to them in an appealing, convincing and admiringly very unique manner, proving to the people in practical terms that what they are looking for is what you have provided; watch them answer their questions, address their challenges and limitations to embrace you with massive patronize...Nnabugwu Chizoba (Scoreline)

Recently in Jos, the Plateau State capital, an unprecedented number of male and female tourists of ages 20 to 55 years, migrated into Jos from different locations in Nigeria to participate in a 2 days Tourism Event put together by a collaboration of three corporate entities: Think Tourism Nigeria (TTN), Scoreline and Jos Events for the purpose of repositioning Tourism in Plateau State. The impact driven, transformation oriented activity was tagged "Tour Plateau". This event according to the tourists or participants of the two days tourism event was a bang (their language).

The need to assuage the thirst and subdue the hunger of the people for a new tourism experience led to the collaboration and cooperation of three entities engaged in the business of tourism promotion, job creation and wealth generation. Uppermost in their mind is economic diversification of Plateau State. Opening up the economic space to throw up strongly the tourism potentials of the state, awareness creating and sensitization of the people at different levels for increased exposure and understanding of the many interesting nature endowed attractions enveloped in both tangible and non-tangible heritage and cultural deposits scattered in Plateau State was also a core agenda of the two days event.

According to the organizers "Tour Plateau" was designed to resurrect and reclaim uncompromisingly the dwindling status of Plateau State as the center of tourism in Nigeria. Other benefits of the event include Job creation, wealth generation and poverty reduction. Promotion of social integration and community cohesion, inter-generational interaction and peace building, and risk communication and community engagement are others.

The event showcased commitment, passion for tourism development and willingness to build a sustainable tourism eco-system leading a strongly integrated knowledge sharing and impact-driven tourism industry in the State.
