TTN is a tourism promotion and development outfit and the lead organization for the Tourism event. Scoreline Media is a major player and reputed name in Business and Development, Heritage and Culture reportage; and Jos Events is very popular, indeed a household name for the promotion of events in Jos, the Plateau state capital.
The 27th and 28th December tourism event in Jos, Plateau state was tagged “Tour Plateau”. The event which took Plateau state residents by surprise has thrown open, multiple doors and windows for investments that will usher in the opportunities for massive job creation and wealth generation, creativity and innovation, peoples empowerment, and essentially also an opportunity for both the residents and visitors of Plateau state to witness individually and collectively the huge transformation work in infrastructure development Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the Governor of Plateau state is was doing and is presently on-going in the state.
The interesting thing about the “Tour Plateau” tourism event is the emerging tourism industry that the coming together of Think Tourism Nigeria, Scoreline and Jos Events is bringing to Plateau state. Tourist came from different parts of the country to take part in the two days tourism event that saw many buses loaded with participants of the event.
The massive support the project received from both the Private and Public sectors in Plateau state and the environs is an eye opener to the Governor of Plateau state, Barr Caleb Mutfwang as he saddles the leadership position in the state.
The approval, support and input of the Plateau state Government as revealed by the ease with which approval letter for the event was secured, in addition to the several calls, series of advice, interventions and regular updates provided to the organizers by Mr Musa Ashoms, Commissioner for Information and Communication, Plateau state; the state ministry of tourism and the state tourism development corporation, are worthy of mention, appreciation and commendation by all and sundry. They are the building blocks for a development driven and people cantered environment. Mr Ashoms, according to the event organisers proved to be a visionary, passionate and exemplary leader; and a worthy representative of the Plateau State Governor, Barr Caleb Mutfwang as his appointee and mouth piece of the Government.
One of the things that stand Mr Ashoms out is his commitment to knowing and understanding the core objective of the Project “Tour Plateau”. He sort to know in particular the proposed areas of visit by the tourists, why, the quality of preparation and capacity of the collaborating teams in the Project to deliver on their self-imposed mandate so as to give the state a befitting image through the project. He demanded from the onset to know if the event was planned as a one-off project or something more sustainable, such as an annual event. He was interested to know if the project will contribute significantly to deepening peoples understanding, orientation and awareness about tourism and reawaken in them the culture of tourism promotion in the state. As a matter of fact Mr Ashoms was keen to know if the package will add substantially to the overall effort and commitment of Governor Mutfwang to open up the economic space through economic diversification activities, which according to him, tourism development in Plateau state is a critical component, considering its job creation and wealth generation ability.
The demand from the onset by Mr Ashoms to know and understand if “Tour Plateau” as designed by the organizers will be a one-off project or an annual event sort of, something more sustainable and with the capacity to keep running over a period of time is indeed quite commendable.
From the moment Mr Ashoms was convinced that what he saw met the requirement of the government he represents, accepting, embracing and lending his support to the blueprint presented to him as a tool for modelling information and managing the image of the state, his value for the project and the lead of the Tourism Project, Mr Christopher Azok, CEO, Think Tourism Nigeria (TTN) that represented the other collaborating partners of the project, Mr Nnabugwu Chizoba of Scoreline and Mr Nanle Silas Longsan of Jos Events had no bounds.
As a result of the novel approach, outstanding treatment and behaviour adopted and exhibited by Mr Musa Ashoms, Commissioner for Information and Communication Plateau state, organizers of “Tour Plateau” are confident that there is a new wave of thinking, a drastic change in relationship management, people engagement and as a matter of fact a transformative agenda hovering around the seat of government in Plateau state. In view of this development Tour Plateau organizers are hopeful that Tourism in Plateau state will grow during the tenure of Barr Mutfwang, as Plateau state Governor, and therefore wish to call for collaboration and massive support of the government, by both the private and public sector stakeholders in tourism in the state, and at the same time implore the stakeholders to work hard and collectively to see to the emergence of a sustainable tourism industry in Plateau state.
