TOUR PLATEAU 2023 - BRIEF ACCOUNT OF THE 100 STEPS THAT WILL BE VISITED DURING THE TOUR

100 Steps to Afizere Settlement is among the sites that will be visited during the 2023 Tour Plateau activities. The 100 steps that take the tourist climber to the ancient Settlement of the Afizere people before the incursion of the colonial masters into Nigeria and Plateau state in particular is a site to behold and an experience of a life time. The ancient Afizere settlement is seated at a hill top of 1200ft above the sea level. This provides the tourists with excellent view of Jos city and the very wonderful Shere Hills: 6001ft above the sea level.

The Afizere traditionally referred to as Jarawa is among the indigenous and heavily-populated tribes in Plateau State. They are caring, hardworking and very lively people.

The 80th step of the 100 step

Anyone that has seen the 100 Naira note denomination of the Nigerian currency must have noticed/seen the picture of the Jarawa Dance Group. This very unique Cultural Dancers better known as the ASharwa Dancers have attracted attention far and near, having traveled outside the Country and outside the continent of Africa to represent Nigeria. As a matter of fact, the ASharwa Dancers of the Jarawa ethnic nationality have toured the globe. 

The 100th Step: arrival to the ancient settlement

When next you see the Nigerian N100 currency note, do well to examine it properly so you will take note of the ASharwa Dancers on one of the two sides of the Nigeria’s 100 Naira note.

Remember, the ancient Afizere settlement seated at a hill top of 1200ft above the sea level provides the tourist with excellent view of Jos city. including the very wonderful Shere Hills.

A very remarkable part of the excellent view the tourist will have visiting, climbing 100 step and arriving at the ancient settlement of the Afizere people is Shere Hills, the enticing location of the Gog and Magog Mountain School that till date remains the only Mountain School in Nigeria serving as the center for the training of both the Military and Para Military. It is known as the Citizenship and Leadership Training Center, Jos.
