OPINION: OFFICE OF THE SON AND THE DAUGHTER OF MR. PRESIDENT, GOVERNORS, LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMEN AND OTHERS NOW A MUST HAVE

Chief Obafemi Awolowo - Former Premier Western Region

Recently, the Son of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, made history as he beats the sons of former Presidents when he attended the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Aso Rock Villa and earned or created for himself, and for the good, wellbeing and betterment of the nation the well-deserved office of the Son of the President. By that singular move he broke a record.
Recently too, there was a story in the social media that presented a brief account of what occurred during the reign of the late ace, Chief Obafemi Awolowo when he was the Premier of the then Western Region of Nigeria. The story which trended for some time held that at a time during the reign of Awolowo in the West, an incident involving his daughter in the school occurred. The story held that when Awolowo's daughter was punished by her senior prefect in the school she indeed represented effectively and did what most children of the high and mighty will do in Nigeria. She left her school located in the present day Ekiti State for the then government house at Ibadan.

Aware of the incident that led to her leaving the school for Ibadan and the fact that she is the daughter of the Premier, your guess as a typical Nigerian regarding her mission to the state house Ibadan can be imagined and the fact that you may be right in your imagination is equally there.

In the morning of the following day according to the report, the Premier was at the school assembly. Expectedly, the Principal of the school and the Teachers were apprehensive. You could imagine their state of mind as you are reading this piece and easily project their reaction when the Premier demanded to know who it was that punished the daughter.

Responding to the question or the demand of the Premier to know who punished an ordinarily untouchable, a whole daughter of the Premier, a daughter that must be worshiped, revered and obeyed; one who can never go wrong, the obviously weak and downcast senior prefect after signifying with the raising of her hand that she was the culprit stepped out and moved to the front of the hall, with very tick silence that enveloped the entire environment stirring her in the face.

Against the expectation, reasoning and imagination of most people, the Premier, Chief Obafemi Awolowo approached the senior prefect and offered her a complement: a hand shack and £2 that was after thanking her for a great job of punishing his daughter for a wrong doing. Done with the job that brought him to the school the Premier was thereafter, escorted to his car and off he went.

What do you make out this story? Pause, think and take a decision, and make a statement on a paper and date it this day.

Putting yourself in the position of the premier, the Principal and the Teachers, and other Management Staff of the school, relate the entire scenario to the Aso Rock incident involving the son of Mr. President who as was reported was spotted, sighted, found, seen, observed and/or noticed at the Federal Executive Council Chamber during the Council meeting.

I am tempted to think that the only power, authority and impetus that he had to pass the heavy security checks at the villa were “I am” and “He is” the Son of Mr. President.

In view of the fact that the incident did happen, I am touched to move a motion for the creation of the offices of the Son, and the Daughter of Mr. President, in the immediate and subsequently a similar office created for the other 36 Chief Executives at the State and the 774 Local Government Chairmen, and a as matter of fact before the end of the tenure of this administration that of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well should be created. Let’s I forget the later ones should naturally include that of the “first lady”.

For your information, the country is vastly blessed with intelligent people, most of whom are Professors, Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) and others who are holders of various professional certificates locally and internationally that will educate the masses on the socio-economic benefits of these offices. So don’t ever rise to query this economic oriented and development driven proposal of mine.

Before signing off, could you please remind me of the decisive action that has been taken by Mr. President regarding the action of the son, or should the nation still be expecting that?

I am genuinely waiting for your answer...

Nnabugwu Chizoba
