BARRIS ADENLE - PROFILES OF INSPIRATION AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Barris Adenle at work, doing what he knows how to do best

In line with our promise to publish the profiles of prominent Artists in the “Art Meet Dance” Exhibition, Jos 2023, we present the Profile of BARRIS ADENLE.

From his determined, courageous and unwavering dispositions; to his abiding faith and commitment to his artist statements which asserts that nature has perfect qualities and fine finishing from where as he claims, he draws his inspirations, perfect finishing of artworks and natural qualities which gives him the joy and confidence to draw more and more closer to nature that has always saturated him with creative ideas which flow freely from his mind, manifesting into different designs and qualities that has been variously described as adorable sets of beautifully finished works of art that are sustained unflinchingly by his believe that every piece of wood and/or other materials that he is so lucky to work on is experimental to him and whatever comes out of it is his contribution, art wise to the earth he lives and the manifestation of the power of God in him, BARRIS ADENLE is surely a special breed.

In many ways, the foregoing speaks volume of who Barris is, and equally bears great testimony as to the force behind his outstanding art works. No wonder, he is widely celebrated by his teeming admirers and followers, and reckoned with consistently as a renowned contemporary sculptor, crafter and art exhibitor of international repute.

Barris who now describes himself in a manner replete of “My Sculpturing adventure” was a sojourner in Sculpture before switching position and committing his time more into woodwork, and research into the area. This switch informs his position that the medicinal values of trees must be explored by artists, especially in kitchen utensils because of the medicinal values and implications to health .

Barris started his art education at the Yaba College of Technology, in the Lagos area of Nigeria, where he studied and obtained the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in General Art, and Higher National Diploma (HND), in Sculpture, in 1985 and 1988 respectively.

Barris produces handmade multi-purpose wooden artworks from different woods and other materials. His works are in private homes in Nigeria and abroad, especially in the USA, Canada and Europe.

The works of Barris will be coming on this Platform in subsequent publications.
