PROFILE OF NKEIRUKA CATHERINE OKANANWA

Nkeiruka seems to have been born with art. This is reflected in her academic profile, which festoons art right from her sojourn at the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra state, in the South East Zone of Nigeria, where she obtained the National Certificate of Education (NCE) qualification in Fine and Applied Art (Education), and proceeded later to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where she graduated with a Bachelor of Art (BA) – Painting.

Nkeiruka’s paintings had featured themes which encapsulates both historical and contemporary issues in social, cultural, political and environmental postulations.

Her professionalism became richer with her sojourn in the National Commission for Museums and Monument (NCMM), in Nigeria, where she is presently employed and serves as education officer. She worked for 18 years at the National Museum Owerri, before she was transferred to the Jos office, of the NCMM.

Her unquenchable taste for education, her hunger to strengthen her background and the need to fulfil and sustain her self-imposed mandate of contributing significantly to the society, the art industry and the Museum environment, led Nkeiruka CATHERINE OKANANWA to attend the highly reputed Institute of Archaeology and Museum Studies, Jos, to obtain a Postgraduate Diploma in Museology.

While in the Owerri Museum, Nkeiruka served as the Coordinator of Saturday Art Club and was equally involved in other art exhibition programmes in the Museum.

On May 18, 2016, Nkeiruka hosted her first Solo Art Exhibition, which has the theme “Museum and Cultural Landscape, Visual Expression”. The exhibition took place at the National Museum, Owerri, Imo State Capital.

Nkeiruka is currently a lecturer with the Institute of Archaeology and Museum Studies, Jos, owned by the National Commission for Museums and Monument. She teaches Art Exhibition among other courses. She is a native of Achina in Aguata Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra state, and was born May 12, 1970 to Late Mr Christopher (Odewa) Ibekwe, her father and Mrs Beatrice C Ibekwe, her mother. Both contributed their most prized possession and brought her to this earth. She is married and has Children.

The works of Nkeiruka will be coming on this Platform in subsequent publications.
