AGENDA SETTING RETREAT FOR VISIONARY LEADERSHIP AND IMPACT, ENDS IN ABAKALIKI, EBONYI STATE

The two days of purpose driven, impact oriented and learning saturated agenda setting Retreat that was organized for the National Council leadership of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu, National Alumni Association, has ended in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital.

The two days event was well attended,  activity packed and fulfilling as the goals of the retreat was achieved. Speaking to our correspondent in Ebonyi, at the end of the retreat, the National President of the IMT Enugu, National Alumni Association, Mazi Dr. Agodi Kanu said the retreat offered the National Council leadership of the IMT Enugu National Alumni Association, the needed space  to interface, bond and share experiences, and most importantly the opportunity to set the agenda for the National leadership that is barely two months in office. According to Dr. Kanu, it was also a glaring opportunity for the National Council of the Alumni, to give the Association a clear direction, saying "it provided the National leadership the leverage to position the alumni body strategically, to make her increasingly more effective and visible to deliver on her mandate, part of which are: fostering the philosophy of the IMT, promoting and enhancing love, unity and cooperation amongst the members, and assisting in their development and welfare; contributing in the promotion of unity and progress of the country, among other objectives.

Continuing, Mazi Dr. Agodi Kanu, noted clearly that the retreat also served as a platform for the participants who came from different locations in Nigeria, to represent different branches and zones of the Association, the opportunity to learn from two erudite scholars, Prof. Austin Nwaeze, and Prof. Joe Chukwu. He therefore, through this medium enjoined the National Council leadership of the IMT Enugu, National Alumni Association, as participants of the two days retreat, to put to use effectively, the lessons of the seminar retreat.

You will recall that we reported on this platform that Prof. Austin Nwaeze, is the Rector, IMT Enugu. He is also the Chairman, Rectors of State  Polytechnics in Nigeria, and Coordinator, Rectors of South East Polytechnics. In the same report, we also informed our esteemed reader that Prof. Joe Chukwu, is with the Alex Ekwueme University, Ndufu Alike, Ebonyi State, and that the erudite scholar served as the retreat Facilitator and Guest lecturer.

The contributions of Prof. Austin Nwaeze, the Rector IMT, a Chartered Accountant, and a former Banker, with many years of experience at the management level before pitching tent with the academic world, obviously enriched the value derived from the extensively researched, well written and carefully presented lecture, by Prof. Joe Chukwu. Through Prof. Chukwu's pattern of lecture delivery, incisive and thought provoking recommendations, he endeared himself to his audience, positioned effectively in their minds and deposited his convictions on the topic he lectured on, as well as canvassed his views strongly on the issues that arose from the interactive discussion that ensued from his presentation.

If the paper presentation segment of the lecture was superbly done by Prof. Chukwu, the question and answer session which the August visitor, before commencement of his lecture, informed the participants would be interactive, was awesome, amazingly enriching, and thought provoking, genuinely informative and solution driven. Generally speaking, it was effectively conducted and in an atmosphere and manner that reflected clearly the core of the retreat: agenda setting.

The agenda setting mode of the retreat was ignited and best described by the heartwarming, highly encouraging and very cordial reception organized by the Ebonyi state branch of the IMT Enugu National Alumni Association to welcome the retreat participants to Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital and venue of the retreat.

The Ebonyi state branch in a very captivating manner revealed the content of their heart when in the morning and a repeat outing later in the night of the first day (opening) they extended openly a hand of friendship and fellowship to the retreat participants, by extension to the IMT Enugu, National Alumni Association, by presenting the team in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state with quality refreshment package, including the highly reputed, honoured and revered Kola Nut and very sweet Palm Wine Drink.

This development which demonstrated the inviting and receptive disposition of the Ebonyi people in particular and Ndi-Igbo generally was apt, as it indeed captured the mind, feeling and vision of the National President, Mazi Dr. Agodi Kanu; and fits perfectly into the overall goal and purpose of the IMT Enugu National Alumni Association. In view of this, the President Mazi Dr. Agodi Kanu while responding to questions posed to him by our correspondent in Ebonyi state, used the opportunity to call on the other branches of IMT Enugu National Alumni Association, to emulate the hospitality, bonding Spirit and care exhibited by the Ebonyi state chapter, and also reminded the Ebonyi branch of the need to sustain the tempo, and while doing that reach out to other branches for more bonding, ideas engineering and collective planning and execution of projects. He went further to thank the leadership and members of the Ebonyi state branch. Furthermore, Mazi Dr. Kanu used the opportunity provided by the medium to urge other IMT graduates residing in Ebonyi state, and other states that have not joined in their respective state branches to do so immediately. The President Mazi Dr. Agodi Kanu used the same opportunity to call on all IMT graduates residing at Abuja and in the Diaspora to join the IMT Enugu National Alumni Association at Abuja, and at the Diaspora branches respectively. The IMT Rector was also present when the Ebonyi branch had a sit-out with the National Council leadership in the Night of the first day of the retreat.

The highly self-motivated, inspired and committed go-between IMT Enugu National Alumni Association Council leadership at the retreat, was spurred by the all important leadership lecture by Prof. Chukwu, and stimulated by the incisive contributions of Prof. Nwaeze, the IMT Rector, who also assured and clearly demonstrated his willingness to support and work with the IMT Enugu National Alumni Association.

The highly resourceful National Council leadership of the IMT Enugu National Alumni Association brought to bear their wealth of experience, exposure and competence, on the retreat. The generous manner they offered their contributions is a huge testimony to their willingness and commitment to the success of the IMT Enugu National Alumni Association, the President Mazi Dr. Agodi Kanu noted. According to him it reflected clearly in both the first and second days, thereby setting in motion the activation and real functioning of the agenda setting mode, and the true realization of the concept a reality, not a mere oxymoron. In the words of Dr.  Agodi, the team that came to Abakaliki, Ebonyi state approached the retreat assignment with the seriousness and unflinching commitment it deserved, a development he noted was responsible for the huge success recorded by the team, especially treament of the real agenda setting document of the Alumni Association: the Constitution.

To the glory of God, the IMT Enugu National Council leadership at the two days retreat started and completed the constitution amendment, and concluded  other items on the retreat programme before they left the retreat venue and bid Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital farewell.
