THE VOICE FROM WILDERNESS: THE CALL TO ANSWER

By Nnabugwu Chizoba

Let’s talk briefly about Entrepreneurship and the Entrepreneurs.

I will begin by saying that “Entrepreneurship is the activity created by the actions of Entrepreneurs”.
In the same vein I wish to say that “Entrepreneurs are men and women of habit, action, impact, creativity and innovation”.

Some people refer to Entrepreneurs as those that make things happen.  Others see them as people that take action, before any opportunity becomes obvious. Some still see them as never say die.

The two words entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs, in the recent time invoke different meaning in the mind of people. Erroneously, some people view entrepreneurs as very stubborn and over bearing people.

Those members of the public, that are kind in their choice of words and assessment of the behaviour of entrepreneurs, but still like them not, consider the entrepreneur as very  restless, uncontrollable and difficult to handle.

Hate them, malign them and chastise them, one thing is sure about the entrepreneurs, they engage and do things that make significant difference. They are at the heart of change. Entrepreneurs are always optimistic. They see abundance where many people see lack and emptiness... not their fault, anyway.

Some people who cannot fathom the reason behind the obsession and determination of the entrepreneur in the face of adversity, intimidation and frustration; and of course, without any immediate gains, often misconstrue these attributes of the entrepreneurs as stubbornness, and others see them as over bearing, while the rest interpret these as over zealousness. They view entrepreneurs as such just to assuage their curiosity and hide their inability to deduce any immediate answer for the degree of commitment they see in the entrepreneurs.

The disposition of many members of the public that favour the axiomatic expression; “if it is not broken don’t fix it”, is totally alien to the entrepreneurs. They instead, subscribe to such things that galvanize actions that necessitate change and bring about disequilibrium in the position or state of affairs of situations and conditions. In a simple parlance Entrepreneurs indulge in activities that distort the status quo.

Entrepreneurs are not necessarily, among the well-educated or fall into the category of those who are well travelled or vast in knowledge, though sometimes they are.

In some cases, the greatest possession of the entrepreneur is gut instinct, backed by passion about what they do and the significant impact their activities produce.

Experience has shown that in time of riches and abundance, few people reckon with entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs.

Like the stone that the builders refused, entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs become the great corner stone, in time of poverty and unemployment.

Be the voice!
