By Nnabugwu Chizoba

For ease of doing business in Nigeria, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), North Central Zonal Coordinating Office in Jos Plateau State, has held a one day seminar in Jos, the Plateau state capital.

The seminar which had its theme, as “Refocusing on government role in confronting the barriers in international trade as a balance against economic instability”, is considered apt. As a clear indication of this development, the event drew attendance from public and private sector key players involved in the business of international trade (Import and Export), among other participants.

The August gathering witnessed paper presentations in the technical session, with topics such as

  • The role of government regulatory agencies in enhancing ports operations”,
  • Payment methods in international sales contract” and
  • Production of quality goods and basic requirements for commercial packaging for export”, among other.

In addition to the paper presentations, there was a discussion session, characterized by questions and answers among other interactions.

A communique, was adopted at the end of deliberations. All relevant agencies, organs and institutions of both public and private sectors assured of their willingness to commit to the implementation of the issues contained in the communique.

Earlier in the event, a welcome address was presented by the NSC Zonal Coordinator, North Central Zone, Jos, Mr. Maurice Effanga, who emphasized the importance of the seminar at this particular point in time and urged the participants to see the occasion as an opportunity to make meaningful contributions towards eliminating the barriers confronting international trade in Nigeria.

Among the attendees of the seminar, is the Executive Director of the Jos Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (JOCCIMA), Dr. I. J. Nubuya, who spoke very glowingly and incisively about the programme, immediately after the event.

This is a developing story. We promise to bring you more details in due course.
