THE APC, GOV. LALONG’S AIDES AND THE UNTOLD STORY

By: Valentine Adese, Alfred Saiki and Chizoba Nnabugwu,

The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Plateau State led by Governor Simon Bako Lalong, though had won the 2015 governorship election in the state, it is still contending with the issue of administration, as the broom that had brought the party to power is splitting away one-by-one from the bunch because of the numerous ambitions currently being built by some members of the party and the Governor’s aides towards 2019.

While the governor is yet to start gearing up for any ambition for 2019, some members of the State Executive have started building political structures around themselves and using their appointments as platforms.

Facts are that some of these appointees promote the failures of the Governor’s decision(s), actions and inactions, to the world by creating their speculative stories around why the governor may not win if he decides to run for the seat again in 2019.
REALITY gathered that, any state congress of the party may be very explosive, as it may expose most, who are already dissatisfied with the way the APC at the state level is being allegedly mismanaged.

You would recall that the Management Committees in the 17 Local Government Councils in the state have been in office close to two years now and that other members of the party who had hoped that it would be rotated around party faithful and loyalists have remained disappointed.

It is on record that their tenure in office has constantly been extended by the Plateau State House of Assembly (PLHA) at the instance of the state Governor, Simon Lalong.

As their extended tenure may come to an end this month, party members are divided on whether the tenures of the Committee members should further be extended or they should be replaced to satisfy the aggrieved.
REALITY gathers that, replacing the current Management Committees is already a worrisome issue before the Executive, especially, the Governor, as replacing the members close to the proposed Local Government Council elections in the state, may be counterproductive.

However, it is gathered that over 90%  of APC members in the state are against the extension plans if any for the Management Committees. 5% favour the replacement of only the Committee Secretaries while another 5% wants the Chairmen removed only, owing to non-performance.

Worst hit by the Governor, are his media managers, who have seen their appointments, as a window to gather their lost fortunes. They, according to pundits in the state, have used their platforms to promote their individual images rather than promote the government and vision of their appointor, Governor Simon Bako Lalong.

Sadly also, the infighting and cold relationship among the media managers, places the Governor totally at disadvantage with the people, especially the electorate, whom he owes the achievement of the promises he made during his 2015 campaigns.

Pundits have advocated for a complete restructuring of the media offices and replacement of the occupiers for the benefit of the Governor, if he has the ambition to hold onto his seat after 2019.

You would recall that, some of the media managers had owing to their gluttonic operation, tempered with money meant for the organization of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) National Executive meeting in the state by not been able to account for over N7million naira approved for the programme by the Governor and just recently, the entire Local Newspaper Houses and the members of the  Correspondence Chapel of the NUJ in the state, were given N320, 000.00 to distribute among themselves in the course of celebrating the two years of Governor Lalong and the state APC in office.

While the Correspondents got N250,000.00, the Publishers Forum in the state got N80,000.00.

Pundits worry and advise that, “Governor Simon Lalong, can only succeed if he employs professioners outside the regular political structure to manage his image and that of his administration now or fail himself”.
