A call has been made to farmers to
protect their farms from blight, a disease experts say affects plants, in
response to infection by pathogenic organisms.
Mines and Agriculture,
in a Message, he sent throughto the Farmers.
The message in part reads:
“The Jos Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, through the
Executive Director, wishes to inform our esteemed and treasured Farmers, especially those that are not
aware, that blight cases have already been reported in some Local Government
Areas (LGAs) of Plateau State.
“While the reported cases so far, are
in some Local Government
Areas of Plateau state, our
call is not limited to farmers, in Plateau state only, but to Farmers beyond
the boundaries of the state”.
“As you strive to make the best out of this year’s
farming season, do ensure you protect your farms to possibly prevent blight, by
spraying.
“Don't forget to add cover force to
the mixture so that the rain will not wash it away as soon as you spray. Do
this while your farms are not yet infected. Remember, prevention is better than
cure.
“As far as we know, blight has no
cure.
“Wishing all our Farmers, fruitful
farming season”. He concluded.
