THE FULL TEXT OF THE SPEECH OF GOV. SIMON B. LALONG, AT THE UNVEILING OF JOS CARNIVAL 2017 LOGO, UNEDITED

PROTOCOL

It is my pleasure to address you as we are gathered here to unveil the Jos Carnival Logo and Mascot, preparatory to the Grand Finale schedule for April 2017, where our rich cultural heritage and the bonds of our Unity in Diversity, will be displayed to the outside world.
When this Administration came on board in May 29th, 2015, it came out with Peace, Security and Good Governance as a key Policy Thrust, which will be pursued vigorously through diverse means so that we can enhance our socio-economic development in all aspects as a State. Tourism remains undoubtedly one key area of advantage for us as a State, hence our interest in this sector, so that through the potentials that reside therein, we can achieve development in an atmosphere of Peace and Security.
Today’s event is therefore unique, because we will be strategically unveiling and announcing our interest in the Culture, Tourism and Hospitality industry in the State to Nigeria and the World in general.
Let me therefore thank the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Hospitality and all other Stakeholders in the Tourism Sector, for the collaboration in unveiling the Jos Carnival Logo and Mascot for the 2017, Jos Carnival.
This event to the best of my knowledge is the first in the history of the State, which is to replicate and modify the National Cultural Carnival organized by the Federal Ministry of Tourism and Culture, which interestingly Plateau State’s contingents have always stood out uniquely, among all the participating cultural troupes in the country.
We shall be employing the opportunity of this Carnival, to showcase our cultural and historical resources as a State. This we will be beginning with this Logo unveiling in which the Touristic Endowment of the State is fully depicted. It has the Map of Plateau State on it with the Rocks, signifying the Rocky Terrain of the State; other visible Landmark on the Logo, are the waterfalls, which shows the high altitude of the State, and the gift of nature to us; while the Drum on the Logo depicts the cultural resources that abound in the State. The Logo no doubt provides us a strategic marketing tool, for what we will be showcasing during the carnival to the whole world and for this, we must ensure it is aggressively circulated and popularized.
The theme of the carnival “Glamour and Limitless Possibilities” is also very relevant to the goal we have set out to achieve with the carnival. We desire to use the glamour of nature and our cultural endowment for the building of Peace and the advancement of our State economically. With the participation of all our citizens cutting across cultures and traditions, we will also be promoting our unity in diversity and by extension, showcasing our strength as a united people under God.
Let me therefore urge all the stakeholders to leave this event, with the passion and spirit to move our State up the ladder, so that we can collectively pass our rich cultural heritage and timeless bond of unity, to the upcoming generation. Individually and collectively, we are the Peace and Cultural Ambassadors of Plateau State, and for this we must therefore put in our best to make this carnival and all other subsequent ones a success.

As a government, we are poised to continually create a conducive atmosphere for all citizens in the State, to practice their trade and vocation without hindrance. This we will continue to do as we pursue all aspects of our Policy Thrust, and open up the space for the prosperity of our citizens in all sectors of the economy. With enduring peace and security, we will overcome all other hurdles that might stand in our way. I therefore invite you to make this carnival a success, because it is one clear way through which we can exhibit to the whole World, the return of Peace to Plateau State.
On this note, it is therefore my honour and privilege to unveil the Jos Carnival 2017 Logo and Mascot, to glory of God and for the advancement of our dear State.

Thank you and God bless us all.

Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong
Executive Governor
