“GLOCALIZATION”: WHY WE STARTED WITH HISTORY

By Nnabugwu Chizoba

History is essential to all generations of Men, to the young and the aged, the aristocrat and the democrat, the lowly and the noble, the poor and the affluent and to Kings, Queens, Princes’ and Princesses and their subjects. History, is a faithful, reliable, honest and bold Counselor of leaders.

As a matter of fact, History, accurately reveals the obligations, duties and roles of leaders and clearly, shows the accounts and success charts of knowledgeable, competent and generous ones and the failures and errors of unpopular, uncompassionate, corrupt, incompetent and unacceptable rulers, who through their ruler-ship alienated the people and discharged the reign of terror, tyranny and abuse of the rights of individuals and the negation of the rule of law.
Indeed, History is the main stay and genetic blueprint for real and effective socio-economic, political and cultural transformation of all developing and developed societies and that which practically influences behavior, beliefs and choices of Men in their efforts to create a buoyant, free, safer and economically sustainable society.
It is worthy of note and to admit that human History is studded with cases of failed individuals, families, governments and societies; and dotted with deplorable pictures of Man’s inhumanity to his fellow Man, and characterized by his (Man’s) exploitative, obnoxious, humiliating, and destructive tendencies, which resulted in growing disaffection, suspicion and high tension global unrest, migration of ethnic nationalities across international boundaries and battalion of the unemployed, ill-housed, ill-cladded and ill-nourished, ill-equipped youthful sub-populations, who became easy prey for political and terroristic manipulations.

Human history is filled with harrowing incidences of massacre, genocide and ethnic cleansing. Prejudice, animosity and mutual recrimination bequeathed Nigerians a preventable three year Civil War that claimed the lives of genetic pool potential of the would-be transformers of the Nigerian society and prompted the country into a long walk to darkness.
The Tutsi and Hutu genocide left millions of people dead in Rwanda, where blood flowed down the aisles of Holy Worshipping grounds.
World War 11 forced modern people to face not only the atrocities of the battlefield, but also the evils of the human heart. In the holocaust millions of people were executed by the Nazi in its crematorium and gas chambers. The concentration camp epitomizes the animalistic idiosyncrasies and obnoxious behavior of the modern society.
The above serves a little to describe the dreadful condition of our time and generation where a prodigious number of Men fell into such a calamity.
Aristotle was perhaps the most comprehensive thinker who ever lived. Besides systematically exploring virtually every branch of human activities and interactions, Aristotle, did pioneering work in politics of interdependency of all races and all individuals in every given society.
One challenge facing citizens of Africa is how to meet the developmental needs of the Continent, without falling short of the expectations of God, in the face of mounting pressure from the promoters of modern World.
It is my expectation that there shall be a multi-faceted collaborative efforts by Africans, of all works of life, especially the youths, to rise up and close ranks, and in so doing bridge every identified gap that has played or is playing any role capable of undermining Africa’s match to stardom.
Because every African, is a stakeholder in this effort of GLOCALIZATION, my charge to YOU, is to closely monitor History as they unfold from the reports reaching you on this platform; and through them, take decisive, but positive steps towards Africa’s new socio-economic development agenda.
At Community levels, we are called through this medium, to establish groups that will ensure that local products become relevant with global content, especially in terms of packaging, branding and delivery. Governments at various levels, their agencies and departments must be proactive at ensuring that relevant institutions are developed to make the enforcement of regulations that promote African content a reality, not oxymoron.
Fundamentally speaking, Non-governmental Organizations, Civil Society Groups, Professional bodies and Research Institutions across Africa; and Africans in diaspora must step out and in doing so create platforms that will ensure African governments and institutions work together with a clear mandate of showcasing the rich African foods, cultures, traditions and humane dispositions to the globe, now that the World is in disarray and in dare need of a direction. African has all it takes to show the way. This is a clarion call to Africa…my Africa.
