TEENS CORNER : Prince Emmanuel C. Umahi writes on SCHOOL LIFE

By Prince Umahi, (AKA) De Lyrical Poet

School life was an interesting journey
Where we disagreed, fought but reconciled in harmony.
    We all had different backgrounds,
But whenever there was a challenge, we never backed down.
Everybody had His/her own unique talent
But we were in unison despite been different.

♫ I remember my first day in Command Day Secondary School,
I had much gladness, but I kept my cool.
    I saw a new dawn
At the peak of my academic horizon.
Though the school anthem was stressful,
I learnt it as a new song.

In Jss1, I tried to be among the top students
And hold onto success, griming as a beloved parent.
Life was fun at that tender age
And I knew I had entered a new stage.
Secondary school was a world of its own
Where kings had different crowns and thrones.

In Jss2, I felt an overwhelming joy
Of been called a senior girl/boy.
I had stepped up in my academic ladder,
And had attained a new rank in my cadre.
   Feeling great and blessed
I never had any reason to be depressed.
I felt I could now stand my ground on my senior’s bullying
And their plots and ill unruling.

In Jss3, I was on a fence,
Been apprehensive like a prisoner on a life sentence.
Recollected my past deeds and achievements
All the appraisals, comments and ill compliments.
I realized that time was no longer on my side,
Because I remembered that life was a grand slide.
   Two years have far gone
And the anthem was no longer a sacred song.
Tried to pick up my broken pieces
And rearrange them in a unique edifice.

In Sss1, I was happy that my junior years were over,
And it was surely my time to take over.
Tho’, I remembered that I was one step close to the university
And I knew that, that was a golden opportunity
To bring joy to my parents, friends, church and community.
   I recollected my childhood fantasies
When life was playful and no crisis.
I also reminisced over my childhood aspirations,
I dreamt about bringing laughter to my nation.
After been separated into various classes of science, social science and arts,
I was thrown into a whole new dimension as an artist with a new music contract,
Embodied with the responsibility of understanding the format.

In Sss2, I had mixed emotions
As a patient with much pills and portion.
    Faced with many difficulties,
And checkmated myself if I had obtained some exemplary qualities
   Meant for school politics.
Having watching my favorite role models on the television,
And I read about them in various novels, I picture events
   With my adolescent imaginations.
I also remembered when I listened to my cool talk shows
    On various radio stations.
I pictured myself as an icon
Smiling like Ben Carson, the accomplished surgeon.

In Sss3, school life became sweet,
With nothing no longer a secret,
And the journey of 6 years was indeed a smashing hit.
Reminiscing the days we were been called upon into the school hall,
And we all marched in like eagles averting a rain hall.
Been told about our external exams,
We listened with rapt attention as a basketball player trying to make a grand slam.
  After all said and done,
We now sang a new song, but this time, it was a goodbye song.
Remember about 4:55pm on the 9th of July, 2015,
When we all shouted for joy as a victorious football team,
That had won the Premier League.
 Dreams became extremely big
And destinies turned into reality and a tree of fig.
 We all took limitless pictures,
  Posing as models in future.

Words can’t express how I felt during our sent forth and Walima,
When we had joyous celebrations and no dilemma.
Picture perfectly, I remembered when I soaked my pillow
    And I experienced sweet sorrow.
On the eve of my graduation, I wept tears of joy,
Having accomplished my secondary goal and now been referred to as an “EX-BOY”.
But I give God all the glory,
    Having been behind my story.
    I truly miss everyone
And in my heart, you all will forever be number ONE.
SCHOOL LIFE WAS EXCEPTIONALLY THE BEST!!!
