HER PRAYER, HOPES
AND YEARNINGS FOR HER COUNTRY ON VALENTINE’S DAY…great expectation, don't let it die
I wish, hope and pray for
the emergence of a great Nation, Nigeria, with visionary and creative Men of
honour and integrity, as leaders and the led. I yearn for a stronger Nigeria,
effectively positioned to tap her naturally endowed potentials. I imagine a
just, egalitarian and prosperous nation.
A Nation with diverse
tongues founded on the solid rock of brotherhood, where freedom, justice, right
to life and property, government by the consent of the governed and stars
shining on the shores of the Niger, Benue and the Atlantic are dreams come
true.
I see with infinite pleasure,
an exalted nation, resurrecting from the dungeon of wasted years. I look
forward to the fulfillment of an ancient dream and answers to ancient questions.
I envisage a holy land for future pilgrimage. These are my hopes, my dreams,
and my prayers.
As a matter of fact, I am
aware that my country is in limbo, largely in the throes of grave and less
human conditions of life, where still very many and menacing are such forces
against the nation as miserable poverty and squalor, malnutrition and
starvation, crass ignorance and illiteracy, disease, ethno-regional and
religious biases, dehumanizing social facts, unhappy historical memories,
congenital prejudice, travesty of justice, moral bankruptcy, clandestine
accumulation and usurpation, breakdown of law and order, serious inadequacies
of basic socio-economic infrastructure, high tension political instability, and
gross misuse of political power.
Because you care, I cling to
my dreams, I remain fervent in my prayers, and I am hopeful that when tomorrow
comes, my hopes will not be dashed. Help to make it a reality.
